Born in Barra Mansa (RJ), Eduardo Amarante started his studies in Architecture in Rio de Janeiro at the age of 18. Two years later he takes a freight ship to Europe. He arrives in Paris to resume his academic studies but starts to paint full time. He returns to Brazil in 1976 for a 2 to 3 months stay and holds his first solo show in a gallery in Rio de Janeiro, coming back to Paris right after. In 1979 he once more comes to Brazil and lives in Rio and Salvador (BA) participating in several exhibitions. In 1980 he travels to Canada to see friends and thinking about living in New York, but feeling unpleased with the American city he returns to Paris. In 1983 he holds his first solo exhibition in a French gallery and receives the prize ‘Aide à la Première Exposition’ given by the Ministry of Culture. Several other exhibitions follow during the next years. His daughter Juliette is born in 1990 and he moves to Buis les Baronnies (Provence) in 1994. He comes back to Brazil in 1998 and goes to Paraty, where he lives and works nowadays.
The paintings are structured plots according to distinct optic fields, showing kinetic effects. The color is his reinforcement element, underlining contents to enhance the contours of figures of daily life. Through precise technique, patience and concentration he paints vibrantly people and objects represented in an audacious, intrepid and almost truculent way, but beyond any doubt, fascinating. Some works are also structured plots but in a distinct way. They are done in a free and loose manner, building an emotional scheme. Here also, the color is the reinforcement element underlining the contents.
